PC World’s 100 Best Products of 2006

PC World today announced the winners of its annual World Class Awards. The “100 Best Products of 2006″ features the finest products and services of the past 12 months, from antispyware utilities to wireless broadband technology, from Adobe Photoshop CS2 to Z-Wave. Each candidate was rated on its design, performance, and specifications. PC World generally did not consider price in evaluations; instead, they looked for products that represent the cream of the crop.

America’s Best Beaches 2006

“Doctor Beach” has released his top-ten list of the best beaches in North America. The winner for 2006 is Fleming Beach Park, Maui, Hawaii. Stephen Leatherman is director of Florida International University’s coastal research lab, and has studied beaches for years. Leatherman looks at 50 criteria in his annual survey, which he’s done since 1991.

2006 Webby Award Winners

2006 Webby Award WinnersThe winners of the 10th Annual Webby Awards were revealed today in 69 business, consumer and culture categories - from favorites like Community, Fashion, Film and Politics to new categories making their debut this year such as Podcasts, Best Visual Design, Business Blog and Best Use of Video or Moving Image. The 10th Annual Webby Awards received a record 5,500 entries from over 40 countries around the world.

Places where you could buy an attractive house for $300,000 to $400,000 or less. Access to quality health care was also a must, as was a strong economy. Next, they traveled to the cities that bubbled to the top of the list, to speak with residents and savor the flavor of their neighborhoods.

The Best Public High Schools in America

NEWSWEEK unveiled the top schools across the country and suggested what others can do to make the grade. Public schools are ranked according to a ratio that is the number of Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate tests taken by all students at a school in 2004 divided by the number of graduating seniors.

The Pulitzer Prize Winners 2006

The Pulitzer Prize, started by New York World publisher Joseph Pulitzer (1847-1911), is awarded each year for works published the previous year. There are 21 Pulitzer categories. In 20 of those categories the winners receive a $10,000 cash award and a certificate. Only the winner in the Public Service category of the Journalism competition is awarded a gold medal. The Public Service prize is always awarded to a newspaper, not an individual, although an individual may be named in the citation. Here are the winners for 2006…

The 2006 FORTUNE 500 list

The FORTUNE 500 list is an annual ranking of America’s largest corporations by revenues. Its companies employ more than 24 million people, about 16% of working Americans. This year, FORTUNE 500 companies overall brought in a record $9.1 trillion in revenues and $610 billion in profits. And while the economy as a whole grew 3.5% last year, FORTUNE 500 companies did much better, increasing their revenues by a healthy 15.4%.
